Security

The use of computers across all areas of business has increased our reliance on them and the data they contain to such an extent that when they don't work, or data has been lost, businesses lose money. System problems usually arise due to hardware faults or mis-configuration, but with the increased use of public networks like the internet, a much more dangerous threat has emerged.

Most companies now have an internal network with a further connection to the internet. The use of wireless access points, to facilitate easy connections for laptop and mobile devices, is growing all the time. Each of these systems provides control of valuable corporate data and it is crucial that only authorised users can gain access to files, documents and applications.

Although attacks against company networks usually come from an external source, an increasing number of them also originate from within the company. This means that it is not enough to just install a firewall, but it is important to also create an awareness of security among all users. This should be backed up with acceptable user policies and a written definition of who has access to network resources.

Last year 74% of businesses suffered a serious security breach at an average cost of £10k a time (up to £120k for large companies) and with almost 100 new viruses confirmed every month, what would be the impact on your business should things go wrong?

Firewall Installation and Maintenance

Overview

The threat to corporate data posed by malicious attack from the internet has never been greater and it is essential that every network is protected by a reliable firewall. ITSP specialise in selecting and installing high quality internet firewalls.

Installation Planning

During an initial planning meeting we will review and discuss your specific security requirements. This will include:

The current structure of the network

Applications in use

Special user requirements

Remote access requirements

Existing security policies

Firewall Installation and Configuration

Once we have selected the appropriate firewall for your corporate network, the installation and configuration phase can begin.

During the configuration stage we will:

Configure the firewall environmental settings specific to your location.

Ensure the most current firmware release is loaded.

Define network settings for the LAN, WAN and DMZ port.

Implement network access services and filters.

Enable user management, encryption and event logging.

Test filtering functionality based on your security requirements.

Activate / Deactivate features required on the firewall.

Perform a backup of the final firewall configuration and firmware.

Firewall Testing

After the firewall has been installed and tested for connectivity, we will begin an external security assessment of the firewall. During this assessment we will:

Scan the firewall for port openings (and closures) determined during the initial meeting.

Test remote management functionality (if required).

Ensure all requirements specified during the installation planning have been met.

Note: installation does not cover configuring equipment other than the firewall. Configuration services for other equipment can be added by calling your sales representative.

Ongoing Maintenance

From time to time it will be necessary to reconfigure the firewall to enable new services or to prevent new threats. In most cases this can be done remotely and ITSP offer a remote management and monitoring service. This service ensures your firewall is kept up to date with the latest firmware updates and security patches.
